Animal Control

The City of Creswell has established a comprehensive set of rules and regulations designed to ensure the responsible keeping, licensing, and management of dogs and other animals within its city limits. These regulations cover various aspects, including vaccination requirements, leash laws, and provisions for pet waste disposal, all aimed at promoting public safety and community well-being.

It is important to note that the City does not have specific licensing or control measures in place for cats. As a result, cat owners are encouraged to practice responsible care and management of their pets, although there are no formal regulations governing their ownership within the city.

Animal Licenses

Dog licenses are required for all dogs within Creswell city limits which have a permanent set of canine teeth or are six months of age, whichever comes first.  Licenses may be obtained from the City of Creswell, Creswell Veterinary Hospital, or South Willamette Veterinary Clinic. Dog Licenses are issued for one, two, or three years, depending on how long your rabies vaccination is valid.  The City requires proof of rabies vaccination before a license can be issued. Your rabies vaccine must be valid for the term of the license you wish to purchase. Paperwork from your veterinarian proving that your dog's rabies vaccination must be provided at time of license purchase. Rabies tags will not be accepted as proof.

Licenses issued by Lane County are not applicable to dogs that reside within city limits.

Complaints

City code violations such as barking dogs or dogs at large must be made in person. You must be willing to sign a complaint in order for the City to take any action. If you are unsure whether or not an actual violation has occurred, you may call City Hall (541) 895-2531 to make an inquiry.

Once you have signed a complaint, the court clerk will send the signed complaint to the Creswell Sheriff’s Office. An officer will then issue a citation to the person listed on the complaint to appear in Creswell's Municipal court, held monthly. You may or may not be required to appear in court. If your presence is required, you will be served with a subpoena indicating the date and time of your appearance.

Please send all complaints to our Code Enforcement Officer, Chelsie Haynes, at chaynes@creswell-or.us or drop it off at Creswell City Hall.
