The City of Creswell's Planning Department is working on a plan for economic development (called an Economic Opportunities Analysis) to help all residents of Creswell thrive. You are invited to a community open house to learn about the plan and give feedback. What: Community Open House When: There are two chances to attend! June 11th, 2024 and June 18th, 2024 Time: 4:30pm to 6:30pm Format: Drop-in. Learn about the project, give feedback, and then you can be on your way if you choose. Plan for about 15 minutes to attend. City Council Meeting Recap June 11th, 2024
Public Forum William Kent asked if the Council would reconsider bicycle parking for the homeless. He requested that the Council amend the code to allow homeless persons to chain their bicycle to their rig. Christina Martin was also concerned about bicycle parking enforcement. Mayor’s Report Mayor Stram asked if any of the Council wished to march in the 4th of July parade with him. Four Councilors said that they would like to join him. Correspondence After receiving correspondence from residents, there were questions from the City Council regarding food trucks. City Manager Amberg is working on developing an ordinance and would like to bring it to the June Work Session for discussion and review.
LCSO Service Report Sergeant Speldrich announced that Deputy La Foca would be returning to the main office and Deputy Basstenette would be replacing him. Deputy Brook presented the Officer Van Dearson scholarship this year to a deserving high schooler Mayor Stram noted that May seems to be a time of increased calls and wondered why. Sergeant Speldrich suggested that better weather means that more people are out and about and reporting crimes. Councilor Clark asked whether bicycle theft is common in Creswell. Sergeant Speldrich responded that they do not get very many reports of bicycle thefts - there was 1 report last month and 0 reports this month. Councilor Smith asked if it is getting more difficult to manage the homeless. Sergeant Speldrich responded that people parking in the street are not obeying the 72 hour limit. They are waiting until they are tagged before they move. It is consistently the same people. Mayor Stram asked about the numbers of homeless in Creswell. Sergeant Speldrich said that there are some people who come and other go so that the number is around 10 people at any one time.
Council Action Items. Councilor Clark moved to approve the resolution to approve the 2024-2025 Budget. It was seconded by Councilor Osborn. The motion passed 5-2 with Councilors Holt and Smith voting in opposition. Councilor Smith moved to approve a resolution establishing sewer user and service fees, It was seconded by Councilor Osborn and passed with a vote of 7-0. Council President Costilla moved to approve the annual Lane County Sheriff’s Office Contract Renewal for services. The motion was seconded by Councilor Smith and passed with a vote of 7-0. Council President Costilla moved to approve a resolution as amended and corrected that would adjust the basic rental fees set forth in existing Airport Leases between the City of Creswell and individual lessees of property located on Hobby Field Airport. It was seconded  by Councilor Smith and passed with a vote of 7-0.
