Smoke alarms should be intalled on every level of the home, outside each sleeping area, and inside each bedroom. For the best protection, interconnect all the smoke alarms so when one sounds, they all sound.
Is it time for your smoke alarm to retire? Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years from the date of manufacture. Most smoke alarms have a use-by date printed on them. If there is no label, the alarm is old and should be replaced.
